Willie Nelson on stage
I felt like we were seeing a piece of American history unfold this past weekend when we attended the 2025 Outlaw Music Fest in the Woodlands (just outside Houston, TX). This year's lineup began with Tammy Nielson at 4pm. The Mavericks took the stage next and it literally brought a tear of joy to my eye. Their set was shorter than I expected but later found out Raul Malo has been recovering from some health issues. You'd have never known it from their performance. This may be the most entertaining band around, and they've been favorites of ours since 1994 when we first saw them in downtown Fort Worth performing down in Cowtown at a street concert. The Avett Brothers took the stage next. Dylan followed them and we were treated to more harmonica from him than I expected. He began with Gotta Serve Somebody, included All Along the Watchtower in the set, and closed with an amazing version of Don't Think Twice. Willie Nelson closed it out with a large number of his classics. How is this man still going at 92? He wrapped it up around 11.
