We decided to take Thursday to just unwind, so we headed out after work on Wednesday to head to Dinosaur Valley State Park. We picked up dinner in Waco on the way and thousands of lightening bugs put on a show for us while we ate at our favorite spot to find them. We set up camp in the dark and got some star gazing in before bed. Overnight it got unexpectedly cool. So cool we had to get our sleeping bag out of the car about 3am (low to mid-60s in Texas in July!). In the morning we hiked and waded in the river, then headed in to Glenrose for lunch and check out some antique stores. This was one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen. Chris Isaak has been one of those artists that has popped up at different important stages of my adult life and I'm so glad we made this concert. Yet another show we've caught this summer where I didn't have to think, "I wish I could have seen him 25 years ago." It was prime time. My whole life I have driven past the Heart O' Texas Speedway and always wanted to see the races there. I felt like we were seeing a piece of American history unfold this past weekend when we attended the 2025 Outlaw Music Fest in the Woodlands (just outside Houston, TX). This year's lineup began with Tammy Nielson at 4pm. The Mavericks took the stage next and it literally brought a tear of joy to my eye. Their set was shorter than I expected but later found out Raul Malo has been recovering from some health issues. You'd have never known it from their performance. This may be the most entertaining band around, and they've been favorites of ours since 1994 when we first saw them in downtown Fort Worth performing down in Cowtown at a street concert. The Avett Brothers took the stage next. Dylan followed them and we were treated to more harmonica from him than I expected. He began with Gotta Serve Somebody, included All Along the Watchtower in the set, and closed with an amazing version of Don't Think Twice. We made our way to LaGrange for a bucket-list concert for us today. On the way, we stopped at the Antique Rose Emporium in Independence and ate lunch at the Kenney Store just outside Brenham (don't skip on their biscuits). We also spent some time in Smithville relaxing.

When we decided to hit some concerts this summer, Kim Richey was one of the first people we tracked down to find a date that would work with us. Thankfully, she was performing just a couple of hours away at the Bugle Boy, which is an amazing listening room in LaGrange. <p>We took a trip to the Upper West Side last weekend through Tuesday with Paula’s mom and oldest sister (who had never flown). We got to see many of the things that were on the list, but mainly spent a lot of time in The Met. Good food (Patsy’s, Lombardi’s, Serendipity3, Barney Greengrass, and Zabar’s), subway and bus rides (public transit is awesome), and lots of friendly people.</p>

<p>This weekend we all met up at Six Flags where my daughter revealed to her brothers that she is expecting a child—our first grand-baby! We are so blessed to have children that love each other so much.</p>

<p>At Six Flags it was Fright Fest, and I have never, ever, seen it so busy. When we left the park at 9pm, there was a line of what had to be over 1000 people waiting to get into the park, and they were limiting numbers moving up in line to the gates. I am assuming that they hit capacity and were having to let people go in only as people left the park. It was wall-to-wall people on almost all the pathways, and I doubt you could get more than a ride in every 1.5 to 2 hours.</p>

<p>This week started at the library until midnight Sunday, concentrating on wrapping up the second semester of Hebrew. Some things that happened last week were:</p>
<ol>
<li>a high school orchestra concert,</li>
<li>the cutting of 32 crosstie timbers into 64 4’ sections (with a lot of help from Clark),</li>
<li>the Christmas decorations in the house have made an appearance,</li>
<li>and a trip to see the Cameron Park Christmas lights (after picking up some furniture for my daughter).</li>

<p>We had a great Thanksgiving, seeing family and spending time together. This was our first year with a married child in the mix, and it was great. We were finally all together on Sunday, and took a family photo after church in the morning, and before half the people in the picture had to head back to Lubbock.</p>

<p>Sean and I scheduled vacation days off for Monday. We traveled up, and Philip joined us, to pull the historical documents of the Columbus Avenue Church of Christ for cataloging and archiving for future access. The history of this church is fascinating, reaching back to 1870. In the process we found a photo from 1995 of me, Paula, and Sean together at a church dinner. The people there gave much to us, we are trying to give back by preserving their historical record.</p>

<p>After we finished our work at the church building, Philip and I headed over to Baylor for a lecture on the Middle-Eastern political history of persecution by Mitri Raheb. Finally, topped off the day with pizza from Poppa Rollo’s before heading home.</p>
